MY MISSPENT YOUTH
Norwegian alt-rock group My Misspent Youth invaded Glasgow on the 25 October 2013 as part of an Evo4, New Hellfire Club and Alternative Promotions combined event. It's safe to say we were blown away. Here's why...
Colours Gone Cold, the band's latest album (released in 2012) is a fantastic collection of tracks and really showcases the songwriting and musicianship within the group. We were ecstatic to find that live, these songs really take on a life of their own. The band lineup is slightly from that of the album for live performances. and consists of Elisabeth H. Julton (vocals), Finn Solemdal (bass), Stig Blindheim-Hansen (guitar), Terje Tjervaag (guitar) and Marius Mathisen (drums)
There are definite influences from artists such as PJ Harvey, Pixies and Sonic Youth - but with the volume turned up to eleven. This is a band that doesn't compromise anything, and you can clearly see that they really enjoy performing. In fact several times during the gig, singer Elisabeth was running around the venue and moshing out in front of stage whilst the rest of the group carried on through an instrumental section.
After the success of their whistle-stop Scottish venture - which also included a gig in Edinburgh on the 26th - the band are looking to play in the UK as soon as possible, and Evo4 will be right behind them.
If you can't get yourself over to Norway before they come back to the UK, then we suggest you get a copy of Colours Gone Cold as soon as you can.
In fact, we are running a competition through our Evo4 Facebook page where not only can you win a copy of the album, but also a copy of Youth, their six track EP. And to top it off, we'll also be throwing in a My Misspent Youth t-shirt as well.
Visit http://www.Facebook.com/evo4promotions where all we ask is that you like the page (if you haven't already!) and then like and share the My Misspent Youth competition article. It's that simple!
We can't recommend My Misspent Youth highly enough. Not only do they make some of the greatest alt-rock songs we've heard in a long time, they are also genuinely really nice people.
