INTERVIEWS, REVIEWS, WHATEVER FLOATS OUR BOAT

WE WERE KINGS

We don't do tricks - tricks are to fool people. We're the real deal - musicians not magicians - although our songs are magic. This quote, from We Were Kings, perfectly sums up one of Evo's favourite bands, who just lastnight (6th March) made their way through the first heat of the Hard Rock Rising competition.

The guys made their way through to the first heat after battling it out between hundreds of other Scottish bands in an online vote (they actually came first out of everyone!) and faced Inhale The Deep and Penfold

With only two songs per artist allowed, it was always going to be a case of choosing two belters that not only got the audience on their feet but showcased the talent of the band. And it's safe to say that WWK didn't disappoint - in fact, this was the first time we spotted honorary chief judge of the night Jim Gellatly stop playing with his phone during a performance and use it to film a band!

And then it was over. A short break for a smoke and then the winner was announced, which meant that WWK were able to blast through another track to the delight of the audience. Or rather, the We Were Kings family - this extended WWK family is what drives the band and Evo are proud to be a little part of that.

Despite being classed by judge Jim G as a bunch of geography teachers, we defy anyone not to fall in love with We Were Kings.

Frontman Jim McGowan has promised he set Jim G straight during the aftershow interview which will be broadcast on Clyde 1 on Sunday 9th March as part of Jim Gellatly's In:Demand radio show. Tune in to find out more!

The finals for the Hard Rock Rising take place on 27th March, so we urge you all to come along and support the Kings, and become part of the family as well.
