CULANN - ALL REVERIE SINGLE LAUNCH

Last night (Friday 11th) Culann launched their latest single All Reverie in Audio, Glasgow. Self promoted by lead singer PJ Kelly, the band successfully completely sold out the venue. Better one than that, with the talented support acts PJ booked to start the show; the venue was practically full by eight o'clock (when the show started). Culann have dedicated fans and their Glaswegian crowd support is something very unique for a band from Ayrshire. After last night's performance I can understand why their fans are so enthusiastic about them.

I myself, used to listen to a lot of Rock music and through the years as my style changed I started to listen to a lot more genres. Culann's performance last night reminded me how much I love/ miss rock. Their head banging beats, heavy bass and loud noises just completely work together. They really are exactly what you want to hear in rock music. What always amazes me with bands is their capability to work together; Culann perfectly work in unison. Quite commonly in a band most of the focus is on the lead singer but with Culann you really appreciate every member. The lead singer and the drummer (Sean Kelly) vocal harmonies worked together really well.

Lead singer PJ is not always at the front, he gives other members of the band their chance in the spotlight. There's not one member of the band you would consider a show off - they work off and appreciate each other's talent. You can notice in their performance that they all love what they are doing and that they are all friends. I especially noticed the passion that the bass player (Calum Davis) was giving to the performance - bass is one of my all time favourite instruments therefore it's something that I really enjoy watching someone play. Every member has stage presence... Greg Irish (the guitarist) took his tshirt off and everything!

Culann's music is very melodic. The music that Culann plays, experiments with rock however it's not too complex that it is a challenge to listen to. It's really nice to see a rock band with a keyboard player! The keys played by Ross McCluskie, makes Culann's music very different to any other typical rock band. The soft keyboard comparison with the heavy beat is really enlightening. PJ's vocals were outstanding. He has a very strong voice with high vocal range. The vocal performances in a gig are made much better when the vocalist understands how to work their vocal range. PJ knows how to work with a microphone - this made the overall sound of a performance much better and much more enjoyable. You can hear every single word that he is singing - something I also appreciate in a gig.

I have absolutely no criticism when it comes to Culann and their performance. They really put on a great gig! I have been told before that if you go to a Culann gig that you are guaranteed to have a good time and to you, our readers I say the exact same thing. If you have a chance to ever go to one of their gigs I would definitely go - it is a great Rock experience!
