INTERVIEWS, REVIEWS, WHATEVER FLOATS OUR BOAT

MATT MCALLISTER

Sometimes you just know when there's a star in the room. We first heard Matt at a festival two years ago, at his debut gig.

Since then, we've drank whisky (too much whisky) and realised not only is he a star, he's also a friend.

And friendship is something that us at Evo hold very dear to our hearts, and friendship is also something that has inspired this debut video from Matt McAllister.

Half of us behind the scenes of Evo come from a small town in Argyll. And when something happens in a small town, it affects everyone.

Unfortunately a few years ago, Matt lost one of his close friends and turned to music.

After we heard the news we all went back to a friend's house and sat there in disbelief. No one really talked about it, we were all feeling it but it was too hard. So, a few days later, I went back to doing the only thing I know - I picked up the guitar and started writing something!
Next thing I knew the first line was there - "well, you're on your way, going some place, God knows where but you'll get there some day".
That night my friend since nursery, at only 19, passed away. Even now it's still hard for me and anyone who knew him to talk about it. He left a hole in all of our hearts and he is still so sadly missed every single day

Along the way, Evo has helped Matt meet likeminded people like Mick Hargan and also given him the opportunity to play gigs in Glasgow that we've organised.

And now it has all come together with the release of Matt's debut video to the track "Scottish Winds" from his forthcoming album, "Stories".

Featuring a host of local Argyll talent this is a song to touch the heartstrings. It also features the neice of Evo's Ali playing violin.

It's a song to uplift. It's a song that is a fitting tribute.

It's also a sign that there's a star in the making.

Here's to you, Matt.
