ENIGAMI
Evo have been fans of ENIGAMI since we put them on one of our live music events, however team member Chloe hasn't had the chance to catch them live. So we thought we'd introduce her to the band by giving her their latest EP for review - and here it is.
On the 14th of April 2014, alt rock band ENIGAMI released their long awaited EP ESION. This is the bands first ever EP and they decided to tribute their EP launch to rockstar Kurt Cobain, as they released ESION on the twentieth anniversary of his death. The Glaswegian band has really outdone themselves with this EP; the melodies, the lyrics, the vibes just all work perfectly together.
The EP consists of three tracks; U Killed Me, Killer Bee and Equilibrium. The band play to their strengths and show the variety of sounds they can do. The songs are very unique. ENIGAMI really can do all kinds of rock... hard rock, punk, light rock, heavy and this EP highlights their talents. Not a lot of bands can get away with more than one subgenre but ENIGAMI kill it (in a good way of course!).
When listening to upcoming rock acts, one thing I personally always listen out for is the vocals and the pronunciation of the lyrics (i'm a sack, i know). Jay Robertson (lead singer, songwriter) vocals are so distinct. I can hear every word so clearly and it makes me appreciate the song a whole lot more. The guitar parts in each songs are just headbangers and the melodies are very catchy. I like the idea that they haven't got many solo sections (show off sections), it shows the band have really just worked together to make music which their passionate for. The guitars sound incredible in this EP, props to the band and also their producer James McKenzie for making it all sound so tight.
My favourite song in the EP has to be Equilibrium. This song is constantly on repeat for me. I imagine it to be the perfect crowd pleaser at a live gig, simply because I really want to hear it loud and join in with the OOOOOOAAAAH'S! Anytime I listen to it, I really just want to bounce along to it. The song can be listened to in any occasion whether it's taking a wee walk or getting ready for a night out.
We will be most certainly hearing more from ENIGAMI soon. I have never personally been to see them live before but let me tell you i will DEFINITELY be going to their next gig. As much as I love this EP, I think it will be just that little bit better in a live environment.
Want to listen?!
The EP is available on Bandcamp for only 3 quid!
